Galapagos Videos

Videos by Jim Young recorded during our years in the Galapagos islands in the early 1990’s.

These 8mm historic videos cover the rise of the illegal pepino (sea cucumber) fishery in the Galapagos Islands and scenes of everyday at the Charles Darwin Research Station.

The turbulent period saw the rise of an unregulated Sea Cucumber (pepino de mar) fishery with illegal encampments in Galapagos National Park.

In addition to videos of the sea cucumber fishery we also recorded the people, places, and wildlife that formed the fabric of everyday life in Galapagos.

This historic footage was used in the BBC videos
“Galapagos: Paradise in Peril” and
“Lonesome George and the battle for Galapagos”

We will be posting more historical Galapagos videos soon.
